Week 1 Predictions

Thursday 8/30:
Leavenworth @ SM North-SMN Stadium
The opening game of the 2012 season pits two teams who've struggled in recent history on the gridiron.  Leavenworth has some needed hype going into the season, and SMN would love to get an early momentum builder.  I think Jason Randall and Isiah Ross will be too much for the Indians to handle.
Adams Pick: Leavenworth

Friday 8/31:
SM West @ Lawrence-Lawrence High
Lawrence is trying to prove the dynasty is back, but an early test against a tough Tim Callaghan squad will be sure to give them a run for their money.  Aslong as injuries stay away, I think Strauss, Mayo, and Jenkins will lead Lawrence to a week one win.
Adams Pick: Lawrence

Lawrence Free State @ Olathe Northwest-CBAC
Kyle McFarland should be able to put up big numbers in week one against the Ravens.  Northwest is lacking experience this season, suggesting that NW will struggle early on seems promising.
Adams Pick: Lawrence Free State

SM South @ SM East-SMS Stadium
Gabe Guild will give East a tough challenge to open with.  But the main story will be how does Jordan Darling handle the pressure put on him by everyone around?  If he can get things rolling East should win, but if he struggles and South can control the clock with their rushing game things could get interesting.
Adams Pick: SM East

Olathe North @ SM Northwest-SMN Stadium
The return of Gene Wier is the big story line of this game, and his week one opponent will be newcomer Linn Hibbs and SM Northwest.  The Cougars are very young this year and fairly inexperienced at the main offensive positions.  Though Olathe North lost a lot of it's fire power from last season, I still expect them to be able to cruise in week one.
Adams Pick: Olathe North

Game of the week:
Olathe East @ Olathe South-ODAC
The hype coming into the season with Olathe South is unmatched around the Sunflower League.  With returning players like Frank Seuer, and Braden Smith it's hard to pick against the Falcons.  East will lean on quarterback John Blazevic, and running back Hayden Frazier to help lead the Hawks to a week one upset.  Even though OLS is the favorite coming in, sometimes the hype can hurt more than help. As we saw last week with Staley and Lee's Summit West from Missouri, upsets are very possible in rivalry games.
Adams Pick: Olathe South
